How to Use Gouache

Learn the basics of how to use gouache (pronounced GWASH), watercolor's opaque cousin. We will start the morning by completing a cheat sheet, learning a dozen basic application techniques and properties of gouache. In the afternoon, we will practice using gouache in a small painting.

Zentangle II: Tangle Time

Over four, two-hour classes you will build on the information learned in the Zentangle Basics class. Tangle Time expands your knowledge of “tangles” while exploring techniques that allow you to push your creativity to new heights. In each class you will expand your tangling techniques and add to your knowledge of tangles (patterns) Take your Zentangle journey ahead of basics to a level where you can create your own patterns in a fun and enjoyable way. Supplies: There will be a one-time supply fee of $12 payable to the instructor at time of first class if you do not have the basic Zentangle kit.

*It is recommended but not necessary that you take a basic Zentangle class first.

Ceramic Face Tile

Expression in Oil Painting with Cold Wax

Enjoy the effects of Cold Wax as a medium for your Oil Paints while having fun experimenting with tools beyond brushes, such as palette knives, scraping tools, spatulas, etc. Try different painting styles and create as you please during two days of instructor guided, free style Oil Painting. Students can create paintings of their own design, references for ideas will be provided. You will also learn how to create inviting Abstract paintings based on real landscape scenes. Cold Wax is an excellent medium for abstract and/or loose realism but the creative options are virtually endless. Individual students have completed from one large painting to six paintings in this two day workshop. The possibilities are up to you!

Join us for two days of ultimate creative freedom and fun! NOTE: All paintings must be done on solid boards when using Cold Wax. NO stretched canvas! Students can choose their own boards from various options including Ampersand “Gessobords,” Copper and more - the sizes are your choice.

Layers & Impressions: Gel Plate Printmaking

Explore Gel Plate Printmaking! Discover the creative possibilities of gel plate printmaking in this hands-on workshop with artist Heather Carey of Heather Carey Studios. Gel plate printing is an accessible mono-printing process that encourages experimentation through layers of color, texture, and pattern. Using acrylic paint, stencils, natural and found materials, participants will create a collection of one-of-a-kind prints while exploring a variety of techniques, including texture building, masking, and layered printing.

Throughout the workshop, students will develop an understanding of the gel plate printing process while embracing the unexpected results that make each print unique. Finished prints may stand alone as original works of art or become beautiful elements for collage, art journals, handmade books, greeting cards, and mixed media projects. Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, this workshop offers an inviting opportunity to expand your creative practice, explore new techniques, and discover the expressive potential of mono-printing.

All materials are provided. Participants are welcome to bring fashion magazines or National Geographic magazines to incorporate transfers into their work, along with favorite textured materials such as leaves, lace, or bubble wrap. Please avoid bringing anything with sharp edges that could damage the gel plate.

$15 Materials Fee payable to the instructor
