Join this 3-hour class (for ages 16 and up) where you'll learn the basics of pottery and craft two unique pieces with guidance from our skilled instructor. Once completed, choose from several slip colors to finish your creations, which will be fired and ready for pickup after. In this workshop, Taylor will demonstrate how she layers surface decoration techniques at the leather soft, leather hard, and bone dry stages to create colorful, tactile porcelain pottery. Slip trailing, refining by carving, and underglaze painting with paper resists will be covered. Strategies for choosing color palettes, fixing or incorporating mistakes, and composing a compelling surface will be discussed. These techniques can also be applied to stoneware.

Taylor Sijan is a full-time studio artist from Catawba Island, Ohio. She earned a BFA in 3-D Arts from Bowling Green State University (2016), completed two years of post-baccalaureate study in ceramics at Wichita State University (2016-2018), and obtained an MFA with ceramics emphasis from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2021). She has taught workshops at institutions including Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft, Peters Valley School of Craft, Gasworks NYC, The Hudgens Center for Art and Learning, Touchstone Center for Crafts, Saratoga Clay Arts Center, Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts, and Wooten Clayworks.

Design and hand-build your own functional and decorative ceramic yarn bowl in this beginner-friendly workshop. Using slab-building techniques, you’ll construct a custom bowl designed to keep yarn neatly in place while you work.

Under the guidance of an instructor, you’ll learn how to roll and shape clay slabs, join seams, and form a sturdy base. Once assembled, you’ll add your personal touch through carved or sculpted details—turning your piece into a one-of-a-kind creation that’s as beautiful as it is useful.

Whether you’re a ceramic enthusiast or a fiber artist looking to craft your own studio companion, this hands-on session offers a fun introduction to clay construction and surface design. All materials and tools are provided.

Finished pieces will be fired and ready for pickup at a later date.

High-quality images are essential for showcasing your work, whether for portfolios, exhibitions, or online platforms. This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of photographing three-dimensional artwork, with a focus on sculpture and ceramics. Using a professional photography setup with lighting and backdrop, you’ll be guided step-by-step through how to capture form, surface, and detail.

Participants will practice by photographing one of their own pieces during the workshop, with instruction on composition, lighting angles, and background selection. The session also includes an introduction to free, user-friendly photo editing software to help polish your images.

In addition to the guided session, participants will be scheduled for follow-up studio time to return and photograph additional work using the same professional setup. This ensures you leave with both the skills and the resources to continue documenting your artwork with confidence.
