Love Lines: Partner Printmaking

A Collaborative Workshop Series with Historic Yellow Springs & Historic Sugartown

Design and craft a one-of-a-kind sketchbook in this immersive, four-part workshop series that blends creative printmaking and traditional bookbinding techniques. Offered in partnership by Historic Yellow Springs and Historic Sugartown, this hands-on experience invites you to explore two historic sites while creating a functional and personal work of art.

Session 1: Traditional Paper Marbling 

Historic Sugartown | October 25, 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Begin your journey in Historic Sugartown’s 19th-century bindery, where you’ll learn traditional paper marbling techniques that date back centuries. Create a collection of one-of-a-kind hand-marbled papers to use in your final sketchbook. If you'd like to incorporate your own specialty papers, bring a few sheets—we’ll guide you through prepping them for binding during the final portion of this session.

Sessions 2 & 3: Creative Printmaking for Your Sketchbook 

Historic Yellow Springs | November 1 & 8, 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM

In these two sessions, artist Laura Stockdale will guide participants through printmaking techniques to personalize the pages of their sketchbook. You'll create a decorative frontispiece—similar to those found in historic books—and explore options for adding sections that showcase original printwork. These pages can include different types of paper, layouts, and textures, offering a dynamic and deeply personal touch to your final book.

Session 4: Bookbinding with Leather or Cloth

Historic Sugartown | November 15, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Return to Sugartown to complete your sketchbook in the working bindery. Using hand tools and traditional techniques, you’ll sew and bind your printed and marbled pages into a hardcover book, choosing from leather or hand-dyed book cloth in a variety of colors. The final sketchbook can be up to 9x12 inches in size and will be a durable, heirloom-quality piece. 

Working with Slips: Getting the Surface You Want

This is a one-day  hands-on workshop where you can learn about the nature of slip decorating and how it can expand  your decorating possibilities in ways you can’t imagine if you haven’t tried it! We will Lear about slip-its history, and how to make many colors of slip. You will have a chance to experiment with slip on your own pieces or test tiles we will provide. The results will be posted in the studio for anyone to study.If you want to expand your possibilities, working with the right slip for your firing conditions, this is an intriguing way to begin. The possibilities are endless.

Wool Watercolor Workshop: Autumn Magic in Fiber

A delightfully spooky twist on Creative Pairings: Art Nights for Grown-Ups 

Looking for a creative way to spend Halloween night? Grab a partner—or come solo—and join us for Date Night Etching: Build-a-Body, a hands-on printmaking workshop with a haunted twist. Each participant will etch a different body part (think heads, hands, feet, torsos) using beginner-friendly techniques. Then, like a ghoulish game of mix-and-match, we’ll assemble everyone’s prints into one giant, collaborative monster creation.

You’ll leave with your own eerie original print and a photo of the final creature. Costumes are encouraged, and so is your sense of humor.

Part of our Creative Pairings series, this special Halloween session invites grown-ups to unwind, connect, and make something memorable—over wine, beer, and festive bites in our welcoming studio.

No experience? No problem! This class is perfect for anyone curious about experimenting with color and flow. You’ll create your own abstract masterpiece and a custom switch plate cover, watching your designs come to life with mesmerizing effects. At the end of the session, we’ll apply a finishing varnish so your pieces are ready to display and enjoy.

Zentangle II: Tangle Time

Over four, two-hour classes you will build on the information learned in the Zentangle Basics class. Tangle Time expands your knowledge of “tangles” while exploring techniques that allow you to push your creativity to new heights. In each class you will expand your tangling techniques and add to your knowledge of tangles (patterns) Take your Zentangle journey ahead of basics to a level where you can create your own patterns in a fun and enjoyable way.Supplies: There will be a one-time supply fee of $12 payable to the instructor at time of first class if you do not have the basic Zentangle kit.

*It is recommended but not necessary that you take a basic Zentangle class first.
