Take what you have observed in the natural world and apply it to your art in this beginner-friendly, one day printmaking workshop. In this workshop, you will be guided in the techniques of block cutting and hand printing. Each participant will make and take home all of their unique prints inspired by the flora and fauna of nature, as well as their single custom block that can be reprinted again and again!

To Weave Wild means to honor what wants to be created. To weave without boundaries and connect deeply to the craft. To connect to the slow innate medicine that is weaving. Allowing your mind, hands, and fiber to come together to create something ethereally wild and free. In this beginner (no experience needed) frame loom weaving workshop you will learn to do this. You will learn the foundations of frame loom weaving from setting up your loom to finishing a small handwoven piece that can be used as a small wall hanging. During the workshop you will be guided to connect to weaving mindfully and encouraged to explore and play with various animal, plant-based, and synthetic fibers as you weave wild and free. 

All materials will be provided. Students will leave with their finished piece, frame loom, and yarn, to continue weaving wild and free at home. Materials cost $30

Print, ink and repeat with plants from Historic Yellow Springs! Discover the excitement of printmaking and see your image come to life in each print. In this all day workshop, we’ll explore both monoprinting and linocut using nature as both inspiration and material to create beautiful artworks. Forage near the studio and explore the historic medicinal herb garden to gather materials for printing.

You’ll be guided through the entire process from drawing to carving to printing. Make multiple prints you can frame or give as a gift. Bonus: the printing plate is yours to keep for future printing. Try different colors, mix your own inks, and enjoy some creative camaraderie!

You’ll take home the custom plate you design for future use, along with all of the prints you create during the workshop.  $25 materials fee payable to the instructor.

Design and hand-build your own functional and decorative ceramic yarn bowl in this beginner-friendly workshop. Using slab-building techniques, you’ll construct a custom bowl designed to keep yarn neatly in place while you work.

Under the guidance of an instructor, you’ll learn how to roll and shape clay slabs, join seams, and form a sturdy base. Once assembled, you’ll add your personal touch through carved or sculpted details—turning your piece into a one-of-a-kind creation that’s as beautiful as it is useful.

Whether you’re a ceramic enthusiast or a fiber artist looking to craft your own studio companion, this hands-on session offers a fun introduction to clay construction and surface design. All materials and tools are provided.

Finished pieces will be fired and ready for pickup at a later date.

Baskets were essential in the colonial period for gathering, marketing, and everyday household tasks; an indispensable tool in both town and farm life. Participants in this hands-on workshop will create a small market basket using traditional techniques. Working over a wooden mold, each basket will be woven from natural reed and finished with sturdy oak handles and pre-bent reed rims. 

Students will learn to prepare their material, lay out their base, weave the sides of the basket, attach the rims and handles and lash the basket.  

All tools and materials will be supplied by the instructor.  Please bring an apron or towel since we work wet!

Take what you have observed in our short walk through nature and apply it to your art in this beginner-friendly, one day printmaking/textile workshop. In this workshop, you will be guided in the techniques of block cutting and hand printing on a fabric of your choosing to make unique nature-inspired patches to adorn your jackets, jeans, bookbags, etc. Each participant will make and take home all of their unique fabric prints inspired by the flora and fauna of nature, as well as their single custom block that can be reprinted again and again!

Only Afternnoon Sessions Available

Calling all future Tomb Raiders, Treasure Hunters, and Indiana Jones's!

This course-- designed to mirror the structure of the field schools that all qualified archaeologists attend and incorporating anthropological techniques and theories in a digestable way-- will help introduce kids interested in "digging up the past" to the practical skills and concepts used in archaeology. Campers will have the opportunity to excavate real artifacts on the campus of Historic Yellow Springs and will learn about the techniques that archaeologists use to bring the past to life for us today. Whether they're passionate about watching old episodes of Time Team or have a an above-average appreciation for all things King Tut, this camp offers an excellent opportunity for the next generation of aspiring archeologists to experience what life is really like on a dig.

Each week will combine learning and hands-on exploration, allowing campers to learn sifting techniques, how to determine the age of artifacts, and how art and archeology have been intertwined for centuries.
