Chester Springs Studio Ceramics Open Studio
with Matt Wren

Open Studio is available exclusively to students (ages 16 and up) enrolled in a full-semester ceramics class. Students must register for Open Studio at the same location as their class to avoid transporting pottery between studios. Use this time to continue working on class projects. Tech support is offered during select Open Studio hours.
Mondays 9:30-12:00
Tuesdays 1:00-3:30
Saturdays 1:00-3:30 and 4:00-6:30
Sundays 1:00-3:30 and 4:00-6:30

Designed for young artists, this camp will immerse participants in a variety of artistic activities, including fine arts and Ceramics. We will explore the natural world around us and take a look at some of our native plant species and use them in craft projects that capture their magic. Whether they're beginners or budding artists, our camp provides a fun, supportive environment for exploration and skill-building. With a mix of individual projects and group activities, every child will leave with a collection of their own artwork and lasting memories.

Introduction to Wheel Throwing

3 different days available.
This 10-week course offers a comprehensive introduction to the art of wheel throwing. Students will learn the fundamentals of clay preparation, centering, and shaping basic forms like bowls and cylinders. As the course progresses, students will explore trimming, attaching handles, surface decoration techniques and glazing. With hands-on practice and one-on-one guidance, participants will refine their skills and complete personal projects. The final weeks focus on finishing touches and group critiques, providing students with a well-rounded foundation in the art of functional pottery. Suitable for beginners eager to explore the world of ceramics.

Portrait Painting: Building Skills and Confidence

All About the Wheel

Beginners kick off by learning to center and throw cylinders and bowls, while returning students refine their personal style and dive into advanced techniques and individual projects. Lidded Vessel Concentration

Our advanced level throwing themed class this session will focus on lids. Traverse new and familiar ways of creating lids of all sizes and styles. See how the slightest curve can change the attitude and flow of the piece. Have fun exploring the change a piece of pottery can go through when a finial or strapped handle is applied.

Beginning Drawing
with Martin Piezonka

Draw what you see by learning to see what you draw. Learn visual techniques that make drawing rewarding and fun. Discover ways to draw by establishing the underling structure from a variety of still life objects. Focus on drawing a new, uncluttered still life each week using graphite, charcoal, or the drawing material of your choice. Get individual encouragement and support as you progress at your own pace, with instructor demonstrations to guide you through techniques and materials. A materials list is provided.
