Inclusive Clay classes provide ceramic art education for adults with intellectual disabilities, fostering an inclusive and empowering environment. Participants learn handbuilding techniques like slab building, coiling, and pinching, with sessions also covering surface treatments and glazing.

This class is held in a ADA accessable studio space

Eligibility and Participation Requirements:

• Participants must be over 18 and enrolled in the PA Department of Human Services ODP-HCBS waiver program.
• A support person must accompany participants and stay for the entire class.
• Support staff can create pottery at no additional cost while ensuring their participant is adequately supported.

Create functional or sculptural work designed specifically for atmospheric soda firing in this hands-on ceramics course. Participants will make work throughout the session and take part in a shared soda firing. Through demonstrations and discussion, you will discover how the introduction of a sodium carbonate solution into the hot kiln creates unique flashing and surface textures, considerations for making and glazing work for this firing process, and participate in the loading, firing, and unloading of the kiln.  Tuition includes a half-share in the class firing.

This 10-week course offers a comprehensive introduction to the art of wheel throwing. Students will learn the fundamentals of clay preparation, centering, and shaping basic forms like bowls and cylinders. As the course progresses, students will explore trimming, attaching handles, surface decoration techniques and glazing. With hands-on practice and one-on-one guidance, participants will refine their skills and complete personal projects. The final weeks focus on finishing touches and group critiques, providing students with a well-rounded foundation in the art of functional pottery. Suitable for beginners eager to explore the world of ceramics.

This class is designed for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. We will cover materials such as types of paper, brushes and paints. I will display original works from professional artists as well as examples from artists throughout history. Each class will cover a specific topics such as basic technique, studies from nature, and portraiture. Students will be encouraged to develop their own style and themes.

Draw what you see by learning to see what you draw. Learn visual techniques that make drawing rewarding and fun. Discover ways to draw by establishing the underling structure from a variety of still life objects. Focus on drawing a new, uncluttered still life each week using graphite, charcoal, or the drawing material of your choice. This special topics class will focus on wood firing. It’s process, surfaces, and expectations. Fee includes one share of the firing on December 19–20. Share size is 12x24x30. Intermediate to advanced. 

This class is scheduled to be held in CCS, which is only accessable by stairs.
